 Protect and Safeguard Didsbury Mosque

Didsbury Mosque has long served as a place of worship, education, community support, and refuge for people from all backgrounds. It is  a place of faith, service, and unity, and it continues to play a vital role in the wider community.

It is a sad reflection of the times we are currently living through and witnessing that places of worship must increasingly invest in physical security measures to protect those who gather within them. Yet, in the face of rising tensions and growing concerns for the safety of faith communities, we have a responsibility to do everything possible to safeguard our congregation, visitors, staff, volunteers, and premises.

We are therefore launching an urgent appeal to enhance the mosque’s security infrastructure and provide greater protection and reassurance to all who attend.

We are seeking donations to help fund essential security measures, including:

Secure perimeter fencing

Modern CCTV surveillance systems

Intruder detection and security alarm systems

Access control and other critical security enhancements

These are not optional improvements. They are necessary measures to help deter threats, protect worshippers, and ensure that Didsbury Mosque remains a safe and welcoming environment for all. They are investments in the security, peace of mind, and continued future of an institution that serves thousands of people every year.

Following the arson attack on the mosque in 2021, an application was submitted to the Home Office Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme to strengthen security. Regrettably, that application was unsuccessful. Despite the ongoing and evident need to protect the mosque and its congregation, a second application to the scheme has also recently been rejected.

As a result, the responsibility now falls upon us as a community to ensure that this vital institution is adequately protected.
